Is Malaybalay safe in Mindanao for a westerner to live for most of the year...?

I am thinking about moving out to Mindanao where my g/f lives for the majority of the year. I hear there are some safe cities in Mindanao, but for the most part it is more on the dangerous side compared to the rest of the country. Am I putting myself at high risk if I were to move in this area or is it not as bad as they make it out to be, particularly in that city. Thanks. ------

Hi Big J,

my father in law who is German and his friends spend 6months a year here in Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao. I can't say it for other cities in Mindanao, but here, I've never heard of a foreigner being in a dangerous situation (ie. kidnapped). My father-in-law even walk going to his favorite bar (about 2km) from their house.

It is very dangerous. The place is full of Muslims who want to kill westerners. When I visited the Philippines, my friends said never to go there. ------
